### Discontinued ###
The Reference II motor has been replaced by the new Verus Direct coupled
motor. However, we have a small number of Reference II motors in stock
that are available at a deep discount. While supplies last.
Prices:
- $950 (reg $1395)
- $830 without Bybee filters
Description
The Teres Reference motor was developed for use with the high performance
Teres 300 series turntables. During the development of the Reference motor
we carefully examined every aspect of the Teres Signature motor and controller
design looking for possible areas for improvement, regardless of cost.
Along the way there were a number of surprises. There were a number discoveries
that worked well along with a few that didn't. Interestingly it was
difficult to predict the effect of various changes. Most changes were
surprisingly audible, but not always an improvement. Careful listening
evaluations were the key to refining the Reference motor design.
Late in 2005 a number of enhancements were added to create the Reference II
motor. These enhancemnets include improved voltage regulation, additional
noise suppression, a reduction in the number of connections and most
significantly a low intertia, non-metalic pulley. The combined effect of these
enhancements is improved clarity and definition that is clearly audible.
Additional Information
The Reference motor is an enhancement of the Signature II motor but
it shares the same basic design. For more details about design, operation
and reliability see the Signature II Motor.
Housing
The Reference motor is housed in a taller, heavier enclosure that places
a fairly large volume of lead shot in contact with the motor housing. This
heavier and better damped enclosure further enhances the performance of the
Reference motor.
Non-Teres Turntables
The Teres Reference motor may be adapted to work with almost any turntable
with excellent results. However, due to it's high cost we only recommend
using the Reference motor with top quality turntables. In addition to the
Teres 300 series turntables the Reference motor is especially well suited for
the Platine Verdier turntable.
Dimensions
- Height 6.5" (lower edge of belt)
- Diameter 4.5"
- Weight 6.5 pounds

Custom Maxon Motor
The Teres reference motor uses a superb Maxon DC
motor custom built to our specifications. This remarkable, but expensive,
motor features rare earth magnets and high quality all metal construction.
In addition this custom motor features a difficult to obtain balance of
technical parameters (high torque and low rotational inertia) ideal
for this application.
Quality Components
We have found that component quality is clearly audible in the motor
regulator circuit. For the reference motor only the highest quality
components are used throughout. We use Black Gate and high quality
polypropelene capacitors, precision metal film resistors, gold plated
connectors and Teflon insulated silver plated OFC wire.
For reasons that are not clear to us component quality is perhaps
even more audible in this application than in audio circuits.
Going a step further the Reference motor also employs Bybee
Purifiers. These remarkable devices offer notable improvements where ever
we have used them. Matching our experience with component quality the Bybee's
brought about notable improvements in the Reference motor.
Battery Supply
The reference motor includes a high quality battery power supply. Powering a
Teres motor from a battery results in a significant sonic improvement. For a
motor of this class battery power is a must. The Teres battery supply was
designed specific-ly for the Reference motor and includes a number of new
advancements. The battery supply includes a large 12AH battery, redesigned low
impedance circuity and of course the smart circuit that disconnects the charger
circuit when the motor is running. It's simple, plug and forget solution.
The Teres battery supply comes with a standard detachable IEC power cord and
may be easily configured for (220-250v) power.
