Serial #41 - Jun 03 2003, Marshall Gordon - Lafayette, California

I have had my (early laminated platter version) running in my workbench system for a year and a half, but had not gotten around to finishing it. I originally had the bearing seated on a maple slab I bought from Mapleshade, but did not like the looks.

Last month I finished retooling the maple slab into a teardrop shape, using some leftover maple for the arm support. Taking a chance on looks, I polished the laminated platter, which had been sold as a second, and it turned out, I think, looking rather stunning. The plinth is sitting on three mapleshade cones, which in turn sit on a Corian slab which is set in a sandbox similar to the one Chris describes. In order to fit nicely into my cabinetry, I have the sandbox on heavy duty drawer slides so that it can be pushed back into the cabinet and the (pocket) doors closed over it for wife acceptance factor. For now, the arm is a Signet, and the cartridge a Grado.

My system is mostly vacuum tube electronics driving Beveridge System III electrostatics. The sound is absolutely wonderful, and better than any vinyl rig I have had the pleasure to hear.
